Document Translation for an Ausbildung in Germany From Cameroon

You are preparing a vocational training (Ausbildung) visa for Germany. Before you order a translation, read what the German Embassy in Yaoundé says: according to its page, documents in English or French need no German translation. This guide sets out the document list and the steps, and says where a certified translation can still help.

In short

  • According to the German Embassy in Yaoundé’s page, documents in German, English and French need no translation; those in another language require a German one.
  • The page does not say who must translate, whether the translator must be sworn, or how many copies are needed. Check the current page.
  • Legalisation of Cameroonian documents is suspended, according to the embassy. For a birth certificate, only the “copie intégrale” replaces the original.
  • At CamerTrad, German is a certified translation, never a sworn one: 10,000 FCFA per page, 72 hours.

Who this is for, and when translation comes in

This guide is for Cameroonians aiming at an Ausbildung, a vocational training in Germany with a contract signed with a company. The visa is prepared with the German Embassy in Yaoundé, with an appointment at the service provider it designates.

For Cameroonian documents written in English or French, the embassy’s page asks for no German translation. A translation is therefore not always needed. It may be for a paper in another language, or if the company, the school or a body recognising your diploma asks for one. The pages we read say nothing about those cases: ask the body concerned.

The documents involved

Among the papers the embassy lists, three have a page of their own here.

  • Birth certificateThe original birth certificate is requested. Since 23 December 2024, only the “copie intégrale” replaces the original, according to the embassy.
  • Diploma and transcriptsSchool reports and diplomas: Probatoire and Baccalauréat, or O-Level and A-Level, according to the page.
  • Marriage and divorceThe marriage certificate, if it applies to you.
  • German translationIf a paper must be translated into German: certified translation, never sworn, and what the embassy says about translators.

The steps in order

A sequence taken from the embassy’s page “Visa im Bereich Ausbildung, Studium oder Forschung”. Translation comes at step 3, when it is needed.

  1. 1

    Check the visa category

The embassy points to the Visa-Navigator to confirm that your case falls under a training visa.

  2. 2

Gather all the documents before applying

Form, biometric photo, passport, birth certificate, training contract, school reports and diplomas, proof of funds and health insurance, according to the page.

  3. 3

    Spot the documents to translate

English and French need no German translation. For a paper in another language, or if the company or a body asks you to, have it translated: certified translation at CamerTrad.

  4. 4

    Register and get an appointment

Registration goes through the embassy’s portal. The page says registration and appointment allocation are free, that the appointment is allocated automatically and that you must confirm it within 7 days.

  5. 5

Bring the originals to the appointment

At the appointment with the designated provider, you bring the originals of the documents you uploaded. They are returned after the procedure.

What the embassy says, point by point

According to the German Embassy in Yaoundé’s pages read on 26 October 2026:

  • Ausbildung documents: a training contract signed by the candidate and the company, the company’s declaration on the employment relationship, school reports and diplomas, training certificates, a CV and cover letter in German of one page each, proof of funds and health insurance.
  • German level: B1 for a qualified training, A2 for another training, with certificates from the ALTE list; a confirmation from the company and the school may be enough, but the embassy recommends attaching certificates.
  • Translations: documents in German, English and French need no translation; other languages require a German translation. The page does not say who must translate.
  • Legalisation: “discontinued” for Cameroonian documents, according to the page on document verification. The embassy may verify documents within a visa application, which can take up to 12 months; a private person cannot request that verification.
  • Fees written on the page: 25,000 XAF for a candidate under 18, 50,000 XAF from 18, plus the service provider’s fee. These fees do not go through us.

These figures and requirements change: read the embassy’s page again before you act. The old 2023 information sheet, which the embassy itself calls out of date, should not be used as a reference.

Appointments and timelines: what the embassy states

The page on booking appointments says allocation is automatic, with a waiting list, and that you must confirm the appointment within 7 days or it is cancelled. It gives indicative waiting times, as of 7 July 2025: more than a year for training or work. Those times are old, indicative and not binding: check the current page.

For translation, that means one thing: do not order too early. A translation made months before the appointment may have to be redone if your document is replaced by a newer version.

Mistakes that cost time

  • Having documents in English or French translated into German when the embassy does not ask for it.
  • Getting the form of the birth certificate wrong: the embassy wants the “copie intégrale”. “Copy” or “duplicata” are not equivalent.
  • An incomplete translation: back, marginal notes, stamps left untranslated.
  • Names spelt differently between birth certificate, school reports and passport. Tell us in your first message.
  • Trusting an intermediary rather than the embassy’s page.
  • Forgetting to confirm the appointment within 7 days.

What CamerTrad does, and what it does not

We translate your documents between French, English and German. For German, it is a certified translation, never a sworn one. Between French and English, our translations are done by a sworn translator of the Centre Court of Appeal.

We do not build your file, we do not find a company, we write no CV or cover letter, we do not submit the application and we do not advise on your chances of getting a visa. The embassy and the receiving body set their own requirements: we never promise that a translation will be accepted.
