In short
- VFS Global is a private service provider. Its website describes it as the exclusive service provider for the Government of Canada in Cameroon, giving administrative support to visa applicants.
- The centre, called a VAC (visa application centre), is in Yaoundé. You go there by appointment to give biometrics and to hand in or collect your passport.
- VFS decides nothing: its own page says only IRCC immigration officers decide whether to issue or refuse a visa, and the centre gives no advice.
- For Canada, IRCC wants documents in English or French. A Cameroonian certificate already in English or French needs no translation.
What is VFS Global?
VFS Global is a private company working under contract for foreign governments. It takes in visa files, records fingerprints and photos, sends passports on, then hands them back.
In Cameroon, VFS Global’s Canada page says it is “the exclusive service provider for the Government of Canada” and gives administrative support to visa applicants. Its “About” page adds that the centre accepts temporary residence applications (visitor visas, study and work permits) and travel documents for permanent residents.
The part most people get wrong: VFS does not assess your file. The same page states that only IRCC immigration officers decide whether to issue or refuse a visa, that VFS is neither an agent nor a representative of the Government of Canada, and that the centre has no influence on the outcome. IRCC’s own page on visa application centres adds that they are expressly forbidden to give visa advice.
A Canada visa through the Yaoundé VAC: the steps
This sequence follows VFS Global’s Canada page. Translation comes before submission, and only for a document in neither English nor French.
- 1
Pick the right programme
Visitor, study or work: each has its own document list on IRCC’s website. That list is what counts.
- 2
Sort your papers and translate the ones that need it
IRCC requires English or French. For a document in another language, it asks for the translation, the translator’s affidavit and a certified photocopy of the original.
- 3
Submit the application and pay the fees
VFS describes an application completed and sent to IRCC with fees paid. Its FAQ notes you can also apply online with IRCC.
- 4
Wait for the biometric instruction letter
IRCC contacts you when it is time to give your biometrics.
- 5
Book a VAC appointment
On VFS Global’s website, use the “Book an appointment” button. VFS states that booking a biometrics appointment is free.
- 6
Attend the centre
You give your fingerprints and photo, and hand in any documents.
- 7
Hand in your passport, then collect it
When IRCC asks for your passport, you submit it at the VAC. You then collect the passport and decision at the centre, or by courier.

The Yaoundé VAC: address, appointments, contact
In French the centre is the CRDV, short for centre de réception des demandes de visa, the same thing as a VAC. On 28 October 2026, VFS Global’s page showed a single centre in Cameroon, in Yaoundé: 5th floor, Immeuble Ekang, opposite the Palais des Sports Warda, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The centre moved in September 2026, so check the address on the VFS site before you travel.
What the site says about appointments:
- Biometrics are taken by appointment only, and booking is free.
- Since 12 October 2026, handing in your passport in person also needs an appointment.
- An emergency appointment is only possible for the death or serious illness of a close relative living in Canada, with proof. It cannot be booked online: you call the help desk or go to the centre.
- To collect your passport in person: the original VAC receipt and an official ID.
- The “Contact us” page showed the number +237 242232187 and an email form.
No VFS Global page we read mentions a centre in Douala. If you live in Douala, the Canada appointment is in Yaoundé.
VFS Global in Cameroon for other countries
VFS does not work for every country. For Belgium, the embassy in Yaoundé says it works with TLScontact. For Germany, the embassy says appointments go through its own booking system and asks applicants not to use service providers.
For the UK, the gov.uk page listing application centres links, for Cameroon, to VFS Global’s website; the matching VFS page did not load when we checked. Before you pay anything, open the official website of the destination country: it names its provider and sets the language of documents.

Documents to translate for this procedure
For Canada, a Cameroonian document in English or French needs no translation. These papers only need translating if they are in another language, or if the destination country asks for a different language.
- Birth certificateAsked for children who travel or are dependants. Translate it only if it is in neither English nor French.
- Marriage and divorceUseful when you travel with, or join, your spouse.
- Bank statements and payslipsVFS lists proof of funds among visitor visa papers. Statements and letters are often in French: check the language required.
- Diploma and transcriptsFor a study or work permit, certificates and transcripts issued in another language.
Translation: 10,000 FCFA per page, fixed price. Urgent 24 hours (French ⇄ English): 20,000 FCFA per page. Work out the total for my file
Mistakes that cost time
- Asking the VAC whether a document is good enough: IRCC and VFS both say the centre gives no advice on supporting documents.
- Having a certificate translated that is already in English or French, for Canada.
- Sending IRCC a translation alone, without the translator’s affidavit and the certified photocopy of the original that its help centre asks for.
- Turning up without an appointment, or at the old address.
- Paying a middleman for a biometrics slot, when VFS states that booking is free.
- Names spelt differently between certificates, statements and passport. Tell us in your first message.

What CamerTrad does, and what it does not
Our translations are done by a sworn translator of the Centre Court of Appeal. We translate your documents in full, stamps and notes included. Price: 10,000 FCFA per page, 48 hours between French and English, or 24 hours urgent at 20,000 FCFA per page. You receive a PDF by WhatsApp or email; paper copies are collected by appointment in Yaoundé, carrefour Tam-Tam, or sent by parcel to other towns.
We are not VFS Global and have no link with the VAC. We do not book appointments, we do not submit any file and we give no legal or eligibility advice. The affidavit and the certified photocopy are separate papers. The receiving authority sets its own requirements; we cannot promise it will accept a translation.
Send a photo of the document to translate for your file: we tell you the page count and the total before any payment.

Pages unreachable or not read
- VFS Global’s pages for other countries from Cameroon (UK, Belgium, Germany) did not load: we give no VFS centre, address or service for those countries.
- No official page we read confirms a VFS Global centre in Douala.
- VAC service fees are not given here: the site announced new charges from 1 November 2026.
- The VFS pages say nothing about translation; the rule quoted comes from IRCC’s help centre.
Translations are done by a sworn translator of the Centre Court of Appeal. CamerTrad has no link with VFS Global or the VAC. The receiving authority sets its own requirements; this guide does not guarantee that a translation will be accepted.
