Bank statement translation: when you need it
Nearly every visa file has a money section. Depending on the country and the kind of stay, you show what you earn, what sits in your account, or who is paying for you. A bank statement, payslips, a letter from your employer or a sponsor’s undertaking cover that ground.
If those papers are in French and the file goes to an English-speaking embassy, or the other way round, you may be asked for a translation. How many months of statements, what balance, which letters: the embassy or the visa centre decides, and its rules move. Read its current checklist before you order.
The same papers turn up in university applications abroad, tenancy checks, loan requests and immigration files. The approach never changes: every page is translated as it stands, figures included.

Where statements and payslips go wrong
A missing page. A gap in the middle of the period is easy to spot: the closing balance on one page no longer matches the opening balance on the next. Send every page, even those with two lines on them.
Unreadable figures. Tiny print, a blurred photo, faded ink: we never guess an amount. A line we cannot read is marked “illegible” in the translation. A clean copy from the bank is the better fix.
Amounts and currency. A balance in FCFA stays in FCFA. No conversion into pounds, euros or dollars, no rounding. Only the thousands and decimal separators follow English usage; the figure itself does not move.
Bank stamps. The branch stamp, the account officer’s signature, a “certified true copy” mark: all are described in the translation. A page with no stamp is translated with no stamp; we never add one.
The period covered. Start and end dates are carried over exactly. If the embassy wants a set number of months, check that your pages cover it before the translation, not after.

Price and turnaround: how pages are counted
10,000 FCFA per page, fixed. The count is plain: a 6-page statement is 6 pages, so 60,000 FCFA. Each payslip is one page. A one-page employment attestation or sponsorship letter is 10,000 FCFA.
A full file, say three months of statements and three payslips, is priced by adding up the pages, and the quote gives you the total before you pay. Turnaround is 48 hours between French and English; for a large batch, the quote confirms it.

After the translation
The sealed translation comes as a PDF on WhatsApp or by email, pages in the same order as the original. Paper copies can be collected by appointment in Yaoundé, Carrefour Tam-Tam, or sent by parcel.
Always file the translation together with the original or the copy the bank gave you. If the embassy wants a statement stamped by the bank, or one issued recently, that is its rule. Check the current list with the office receiving your file.
Your statements go only to the translator handling your file, and one WhatsApp message is enough to have them deleted from our phones and inboxes.
