Passport, ID Card and Residence Permit Translation

Your ID is the paper every other document in a file gets checked against, so its translation has to match to the letter. Send a photo of your card, or of the passport pages you need, on WhatsApp. You get a fixed quote, and the sworn translation follows in 48 hours between French and English.

Passport and ID card translation: when it is asked for

The headings in a Cameroonian passport are already printed in French and English, and many offices read it as it is. Requests usually come from elsewhere: an authority that wants every paper in one language, a handwritten note or a stamp it cannot read, or a foreign office whose rule is that each document travels with a translation.

A translated national identity card is asked for in enrolments, marriages abroad, insurance and bank files, and recruitment. A residence permit issued by another country sometimes has to go into French or English for a procedure in Cameroon or in a third country.

Before you order, ask the office whether it really wants a translation, and of which pages. Its rules are its own. We translate what it asks for and say nothing about whether the document itself is valid.

Where ID translations go wrong

Name order. Surname first, given names first, compound names: we keep the exact order and spelling of the document. No name is moved, anglicised or gallicised, even when another paper writes it differently.

Dates. Birth, issue and expiry dates are copied exactly. Where a date could read two ways, the month is written out in words.

Numbers. Card number, passport number, unique ID, the machine-readable lines at the bottom: letters and digits are copied as they stand, no spaces added, nothing “corrected”. One wrong character makes the translation useless.

Handwritten notes. A note added by hand, a signature, an official remark: each is translated or described. If a handwritten word cannot be read, the translation says “illegible”.

Passport pages. Translating the whole booklet costs money for nothing. Most offices want the photo page alone; other pages count only when they carry something the office needs to read. Ask which ones.

What to send us

  • For a card (national ID, residence permit): front and back, in two sharp photos.
  • For a passport: the photo page, plus any other pages the office wants translated.
  • Any handwritten notes, stamps or visas on those pages, clearly visible.
  • No glare on the laminated area, every digit readable on its own.
  • The name of the office that will receive the translation.
  • The language you have and the language you need.

Lay the card flat in daylight and switch the flash off. A number hidden by glare is a number we cannot copy.

Price and turnaround for ID documents

10,000 FCFA per page, fixed. A national ID card or residence permit, front and back, counts as a single page: 10,000 FCFA. For a passport we count the pages translated: the photo page alone is one page; the photo page plus two pages of entries is three.

Turnaround is 48 hours between French and English, from receipt of payment. An ID is rarely the only paper in a file, so put everything in one message and a single quote covers the lot.

The total is given on WhatsApp before you pay: Orange Money, MTN Mobile Money or bank transfer.

After the translation

The sealed translation comes as a PDF on WhatsApp or by email. For paper, collect it by appointment in Yaoundé, Carrefour Tam-Tam, or have it sent by parcel to your town.

Keep your original: the translation goes with it, it does not replace it. If the office wants a certified true copy of the ID itself, that is a separate step from translation.

Whether your document is valid, when it expires and whether the office accepts it are not for us to judge. Check the current requirements with the office receiving your file.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a national ID card translation?

10,000 FCFA. Front and back of the card count as one page. The total is confirmed on WhatsApp.

Do I need to translate my whole passport?

Rarely. The photo page is translated, and other pages only if the office asks for them. Each page translated is 10,000 FCFA.

Can you fix a misspelt name on my card?

No. The translation reproduces the document as it is. A wrong name is corrected by the authority that issued it.

Do you translate foreign residence permits?

Yes, between French and English in 48 hours. For a permit in another language, send the photo and we give you the price and timing on WhatsApp.

Is my card still valid for my file?

We do not give opinions on whether a document is valid. Ask the office that receives your file.
