Spanish translation: when you need it
Spanish is closer to home than many people think. It is the official language of Equatorial Guinea, right next door. Work, trade and family across the border all mean paperwork, with documents that sometimes have to be read in the other country’s language.
Further afield, Spain and Latin America take in Cameroonian students and workers. A university application, a visa, family reunification or a marriage abroad may call for a birth certificate, a diploma, a transcript or a police record in Spanish.
It also works the other way. A degree earned in Spain, a contract or invoice from a Spanish-speaking partner, or a certificate issued in Equatorial Guinea may need to be read in English or French by an employer or an administration in Cameroon.

Where Spanish translations go wrong
The destination country’s own translators. Some countries or offices only accept translations by translators they have approved themselves. Before you order, ask the receiving office whether a sworn translation done in Cameroon is acceptable.
Surnames. Spanish often uses two surnames. A Cameroonian name should not be rearranged the Spanish way: we keep the order and spelling on your document and passport.
Qualification titles. A Cameroonian Baccalauréat or Licence has no automatic Spanish equivalent. We translate the official title without inventing one. Recognition is for the evaluating body to decide.
The wrong document. Extract or full copy, original or certified copy: translating the wrong one means starting again. Find out which is needed before you order.
Missing pages. A back page with a stamp, an annex, a note in the margin: if it is not in the photo, it is not in the translation. Send everything in your first message.
